My old truck is a 1954 Chevrolet model 3100 1/2 ton pickup truck that I have had for the last 19 years. It’s been restored twice since I bought it and it is my daily driver and my weekend truck too.
There are trucks that are 100% original and others with all sorts of changes. Mine looks original on the outside but has gone through a lot of changes. I like to drive it on the freeways, Turnpikes and Interstates and had to “modernize” it to be able to travel safely.
It’s engine is a 4.1 inline six coupled to a 3 speed automatic transmission. The front end is an IFS out of a 1984 Silverado, with ventilated disc brakes and a power rack-and-pinion steering system. Inside I installed a couple of very comfortable bucket seats replacing the original bench seat. Of course my truck has a 12 volt electrical system. Although I live in South Florida I never really felt the need to install an air conditioning system, but I may do that eventually.
One of the fortunate things about owning a Ford or a Chevy truck is the availability of parts. So many of these trucks were made and sold during the 1950s and 1960s and they were so good and tough that many of them are still on the road. Therefore it’s good business for companies to stock parts for them.
In this blog we want to tell you stories, show lots of pictures of old trucks and classic cars and try to help you with the restoration or repairs of your old truck. We know a few tricks about restoration and will be able to share them in the next few posts. We also intend to do a few interviews with professional restorers who can give us a lot of useful information about restoring a classic car or old truck. So, keep coming back and let us know what you think about this blog. Also, if you have your own stories to tell go ahead and do that. We may publish them here for the world to know.
Oh, I have something important to say before I finish this post: my truck is NOT FOR SALE. So, you will see a lot of it in my next posts.
